How To Make Handmade Birthday Cards by Janet Polsterbridge
I love creating hand-made birthday cards and have been doing so for well over 20 years. I find it tremendously enjoyable, restful and rewarding to make my very own homemade cards. It’s really a superb way to wind down, by sitting with all of my papercrafts paraphernalia all laid out in front of me and to just allow the creative juices to flow!
A handmade Greeting Card may be as elaborate or as simple as you require it to be. A quick theme can be extremely stylish and extremely effective. Straightforward styles are excellent for first-timers to card making to start out with. Consider mounting a die-cut decoupage graphic upon a plain card accompanied by a peel off sticker message to finish the handcrafted card, a super easy enough design to come up with with not a lot of equipment called for, nevertheless really appealing and impressive.
Once you’ve mastered simple designs, try developing those designs. Bring in an additional decoration like a bow or possibly a ready made card topper. Start incorporating background papers to just a portion or all of the card blank and add glittery or pearlised highlights by using decorative glues. Instead of a decoupage image, have a go at rubber stamping a picture on top of a sheet of card, color the rubber stamped image with coloured pens or watercolour paints, trim close to the stamped picture in a rectangle or square shape after which you can mount that rubber-stamped picture on the card blank. Your Own ideas will very quickly grow into larger, improved and more detailed designs. By using a small amount of effort you’ll be able to produce some very striking designs.
Whenever you sit down to create a Birthday card, one thing you need to think about is what person the greeting card is for. Will it be for a child or an adult, is it for a male or a female, what exactly are his or her’s interests and hobbies?. It is always good to incorporate a little something personalised into the birthday card. If for example the card is for a golfing enthusiast, a golf graphic, with golfing embellishments can produce the ideal birthday card and would suggest that a lot of consideration has gone into the card.
When you’ve determined the topic for the card, you will need to select your colour palette. A colour scheme for your card might be directed through the colours from a decoupage picture or possibly a ready made decoration that you have previously chosen. Choose a couple of colours from the decoupage image or embellishment and apply those colours with the rest of the card, colour co-ordinating all ribbons, embellishments or backing papers to those two colours. If you are using a rubber stamped image then it is easy to colour that picture using your own personal colour palette and grow that scheme by means of colour co-ordinated extras.
To personalise the hand made birthday card, you could incorporate the person’s name in the design of the card. This can be accomplished through the use of peel off sticker lettering, clear alphabet stamp lettering or if you have a steady hand, you can hand write his or her name using a decorative ink or glitter glue.
As a final point printing an insert for your card using a nice personal message like a poem or greeting definitely finishes off your hand crafted birthday cards.
