Making An Inexpensive Scrapbook From Plastic Bags by Autumn Lockwood
Even though there is certainly a time and a place for very high quality scrapbooks, sometimes you just want a quick and cheap way to make a durable little scrapbook. Your children will really enjoy making these simple scrapbooks out of disposable bags. These books can even make a great present for other relatives who wish to see some photographs of your family. It is also a fantastic method for educating young children about saving pictures. If you currently have photos displayed around your house in picture frames, you may even borrow some of these for one of these scrapbooks. Begin the picture fun by creating some of these cute albums today.
Materials You Will Need To Have
In order to create a scrapbook out of plastic bags, you’ll have to get a box of gallon clear plastic bags that zip shut. Some brands put a lot of writing on their bags, so make sure to find one that makes their bags plain. Also, measure and cut two square pieces of light cardboard, 12 inches by 12 inches. Get together some Scrapbooking Paper, or maybe some affordable craft paper instead, particularly if your children will be participating in this activity. You will also need a ruler, glue sticks, scissors, a stapler, Hole Punch, yarn needle, some assorted markers, and a big nail and hammer. Plus, obviously you will need a nice array of photos. For children, use printed digital photos, instead of original film print photos. If your book is meant for one of your relatives, it may be best to choose pictures that are good enough quality to exhibit in scrapbook picture frames. Children, however, are generally happy with any kind of photos.
Putting Together The Album
You may want to put the book together for yourself if you are producing the book as a project for your little ones. Establish just how many pages you will want to have in the book, and then collect that amount of plastic bags. Join them by stapling 5 bags together along the left side, with the zip lock opening along the top edge. If your complete number of pages will be greater than 5, than produce more sections. Place one of the cardboard covers on a padded work surface, with a section of plastic bags on top. Utilizing the nail and hammer, pound holes in the cover and plastic bags, each roughly an inch apart. Do the same thing with the rest of the sections of plastic bags, as well as the other cover. Position the sections of bags in between the covers, line them up with the holes matching up, and then stitch it all together with the needle and yarn, then simply knot the ends together when you are done. Using the ruler as a guide, score a line along the front and the back bound edges, so that you will be able to fold them back. When you do this the book will open without much effort.
Incorporating The Photos
When the book is constructed, the fun can begin. Give your child a stack of pictures and craft or scrapbook Paper Cut to fit inside the bags. They may then use round-tipped scissors, a glue stick or adhesive squares and markers to make unique pages. When their scrapbook pages are done, simply slide them into the bag pages and zip closed. You might want to take a little more time and care if you are planning on giving the scrapbook as a gift. These scrapbooks are great because the pages are so easy to open and close that it makes it extra easy to swap photos back and forth between your book and picture frames.
Your children are sure to have fun with these fun and easy scrapbooks that will allow them to show off their favorite pictures to you and your relatives.
